Over a year ago, reports revealed that Henry Cavill would not be returning as Geralt of Rivia after The Witcher Season 3. While any significant reason for his departure was not revealed, the showrunners subsequently announced that the Australian actor Liam Hemsworth would be replacing Cavill in the future seasons of the show.

Despite initial dissatisfaction among fans regarding the recasting, even leading one of the show’s actors to address the situation, opinions seem to have shifted dramatically as the first look of Hemsworth in the role of Geralt of Rivia is revealed.
Fans Are Intrigued With Liam Hemsworth’s First Look in The Witcher
Portraying the titular character for 3 seasons in the hit Netflix show The Witcher, Henry Cavill became a fan favorite. His embodiment of the iconic character, coupled with his evident passion for the source material, further solidified his connection with viewers.

So, when the news broke out that he would be leaving the show after Season 3, fans were deeply disappointed. Soon after his exit, Liam Hemsworth was announced as a replacement for Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, but he did not receive a warm welcome initially.
However, fans seem to be having second thoughts with the recent images from the set of The Witcher showcasing Hemsworth’s first look in the Netflix fantasy drama. The pictures feature The Hunger Games star donning the long, white-haired look synonymous with Cavill’s look in the show.

Actually, he looks very good and even more canon Geralt than giant Cavill, but people don't care about canon character's depiction.

And it has generated considerable excitement among fans, who have taken to X (Twitter) to share their thoughts. “He actually looks better than Henry Cavill…,” one fan said. Many also stated that although he’s not Cavill, he does look very promising as Geralt of Rivia.
Some fans also pointed out that Hemsworth’s looks align more closely with the character’s description in the books, where Geralt is depicted as slender, a departure from Cavill’s interpretation. Despite the initial reservations about his casting, Hemsworth has managed to garner quite the intrigue among fans.
The Witcher Star Urged Fans to Give Liam Hemsworth a Chance
Freya Allan, known for portraying Princess Cirilla of Cintra, aka Ciri, in the Netflix drama, has urged fans to give Liam Hemsworth a fair opportunity. In a recent interview with Collider, the actress shared that she feels “sorry” for her co-star, who has been putting so much effort into preparing for his role in The Witcher.

“I feel sorry for him,” she said before adding, “Because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role.” She further expressed hopes that fans will be open-minded and give the actor an opportunity to showcase his interpretation of the character. “I just hope that people give him the time of day,” she said.
The positive reaction to Hemsworth’s first look as Geralt of Rivia seems that fans might consider Allan’s call to give the Arkansas star a fair chance at bringing the beloved character to life. Season 4 is currently in production, however, its release date is yet to be revealed. Netflix has also announced that the fantasy drama will conclude with a fifth and final season.
The Witcher is available to stream on Netflix.
