Filming romantic or intimate scenes can be challenging for some actors, a problem often mitigated by the presence of an intimacy coordinator on set. However, it’s a luxury the beloved singer Dolly Parton did not have while filming her debut movie. After making reigns as a singer-songwriter with hits like Jolene and Here You Come Again, Parton embarked on her journey on the silver screen, debuting with the 1980 comedy film 9 to 5.

Following three women office workers who take revenge on their s*xist, egotistical boss by conspiring to run the company more efficiently in his absence, Parton portrayed the role of a secretary Doralee in the film, alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman. And she has shared that she was nervous to film some of the love scenes opposite her friend’s husband for the film.
Dolly Parton Felt Uncomfortable Filming Love Scene For 9 to 5
In a 1981 interview, singer-actress Dolly Parton opened up about filming her first film 9 to 5. The actress shared an awkward and uncomfortable experience when she had to film a kissing scene with her co-star, Jeffrey Douglas Thomas, who played the role of her husband in the movie.

Parton shared that filming a kiss scene on her first day was a challenge in itself. However, doing the scene with someone she had known very closely made things only worse for her. The actress shared, as per Dolly on Dolly: Interviews and Encounters, she said,
He’s the real husband of one of my good friends… His name is Jeff Thomas — It’s hard enough to kiss somebody else, much less somebody else’s husband, much less on the first day of shootin’ a film and, on top of that, with all the cameras and the crew and all the people lookin’ on.

She also shared that she did not know they would have to film an intimate scene on her first day. “We didn’t know we was supposed to [kiss] and this was the very first day of the movie and boy you talk about clumsy and awkward,” she said before adding, “I never felt so embarrassed in my whole life!”
Despite her first uncomfortable day on the set, Parton said that she felt confident in her craft and had a great experience working on the movie. Her co-star Jane Fonda also praised the singer, saying that she uplifted the atmosphere of the film set.
Jennifer Aniston Producing Nine to Five Remake
The comedy film 9 to 5 was a huge hit, making over $100 million at the box office. The film has since inspired a musical and a TV series that ran for five seasons on ABC. And The Morning Show star Jennifer Aniston is now set to produce a remake of the classic comedy.

As per The InSneider, Aniston’s Echo Films production company is partnering up with 20th Century Studios to create a re-imagining of the 1980 film, which highlighted the toxic behavior women face in the workplace.
The reports also revealed that the Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody is currently working on a draft of the remake. However, other details including its release date or cast have not been revealed yet.
9 to 5 is available to stream on Prime Video.
