Starring an ensemble cast, including Vin Diesel, Fast and Furious has emerged as one of the most popular and beloved franchises over the past two decades. The film series, following the adventures of Dominic Toretto and his crew, has captivated audiences worldwide, with anticipation building for the upcoming eleventh installment, potentially marking the conclusion of this action-packed saga.

However, as fans eagerly anticipate the return of their beloved characters, NBCUniversal has hinted at broadening the franchise’s scope. Donna Langley recently revealed that they have contemplated the franchise’s future while suggesting a possible refresh outlook for Dom Toretto and his crew.
NBCUniversal Boss Discussed the Future of the Fast and Furious Franchise
While discussing the potential future of some of the prominent franchises under Universal in a recent interview with Variety, Donna Langley, Chief Content Officer of NBCUniversal, also shared insight into how the studio plans to navigate the Fast and Furious franchise in the years to come.

While Langley assured that there’s “still gas in the tank” for the franchise, she also hinted at potential changes following the release of the eleventh film in 2026. “Where we go next is a question,” she said during the interview.
Langley further suggested the possibility of steering the action-packed series back to its origins on the streets of Los Angeles, envisioning a more intimate narrative for Dominic Torreto and his tight-knit crew. “We may pivot another time and bring it back to the streets of L.A.,” she said before adding, “And maybe make it a more intimate story.”

During the discussion, the Chief Content Officer of NBCUniversal also hinted at the prospect of expanding the Fast and Furious franchise into television or streaming platforms with a potential spin-off series, similar to what the studio has done with its multiple franchises.
Donna Langley Hints at a Potential Fast and Furious Spin-Off Series
Over the past few years, Universal has expanded franchises like Pitch Perfect and Ted into TV series. After Pitch Perfect 3, the studio released a spin-off series on Peacock Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, with Adam DeVine reprising his role as Bumper Allen.

Most recently, the studio launched a prequel spin-off series to the Ted franchise. The spin-off, which premiered this January on Peacock, has received positive reviews and has already been renewed for a second season.
When asked if the studio is planning to take the same approach for any other franchise, Donna Langley said, “Fast and Furious’ is a good one,” hinting at a potential spin-off series for television or streaming. Langley’s statement has sparked curiosity among fans.

However, fans are also eagerly anticipating upcoming projects from the franchise. The next installment in the Fast and Furious film series is expected to see Vin Diesel’s Dom and his crew facing off against Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes following the havoc wreaked by the antagonist in Fast X.
Additionally, Dwayne Johnson, who made a surprise cameo in Fast X, is set to return as Hobbs in a standalone film before the release of the eleventh installment. Johnson has shared that the movie will introduce a new chapter while laying the groundwork for Fast X Part 2.
Fast X is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Fast X Part 2 is expected to be released in 2026.
