One of the highly anticipated projects under the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has everyone on the edge is the Mahershala Ali starrer superhero film Blade. The film has seen multiple delays and production halts, prompting its release date to be postponed to November 2025.
While it was reportedly set to start filming in the Fall of 2024, there have been specualtions that the film’s release could be further delayed until 2026. These concerns have intensified following recent updates suggesting that the movie is undergoing a significant rewrite.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade is Reportedly Undergoing a Major Rewrite
The constant delays of Mahershala Ali’s Blade have been the source of frustration for fans who have been eagerly looking forward to the project. The star of the film reportedly shared this frustration and was considering leaving the film at one point.

However, the movie seemed to be back on track, with reports suggesting filming could start in the fall of 2024. But recent updates indicate another setback as the movie is reportedly undergoing another major rewrite.
As per insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is allegedly looking for a new writer for the film and is planning a significant rewrite. The insider also revealed that the studio has finally settled on the story they wish to tell in the highly anticipated film.
Stacy Osei-Kuffour was initially attached to the film as a writer with Bassam Tariq set to direct. However, Tariq exited the project. After which the Lovecraft Country director Yann Demange was brought in with reports suggesting another script overhaul.

Blade has reportedly gone through at least five writers, including Logan writer Michael Green, and two directors since its inception. There was a point when the story evolved into a female-led narrative filled with life lessons.
Earlier updates from insider Jeff Sneider have also revealed that the film is more likely to be delayed until 2026. While fans are frustrated with the constant halts in the movie, some of the devoted fans see a silver lining, believing that the extra time could lead to a better final product.
Fans See Potential for a Better Final Product With Delays
Despite the constant delays of the film, some of the fans have highlighted the bright side, in the hopes of getting a better final outcome. The MCU has recently been plagued with disappointing films, which have failed to resonate with the audience.
At least they're taking their time on this and wanting to get it right. If it has to move to 2026 for that, then no problem.

People are like “it’s just a guy killing vampires” when the 1998 movie has a vampire council, different ways of becoming a vampire and inner vamp biases, surprise parent reveals, a history with (and for) a mentor, an ancient prophecy, and learning the folly of uphill ice skating. https://t.co/KvP7GSfQAA

And the new movie has to do all that PLUS go through the MCU checklist

Modern comic book Blade exists because of that movie. Dude is unrecognizable before it…then they did the same thing to X-Men and hamstrung it for years…Blade rules tho.

Those people would have trashed the movie online if it had mediocre script but they don’t have the patience to wait for the creatives to get it right. Maybe outrage over why don’t we have MI8 or Beyond Spider-Verse right now? What’s taking them so long when they were 2024 releases

“At least they’re taking their time on this and wanting to get it right,” one fan said on X (Twitter), asserting that they are willing to wait til 2026 to get the best version of the film possible.
Given Blade’s complex character, fans believe it’s crucial for the studio to take its time to accurately bring this intricate character to the silver screen, much like the original trilogy starring Wesley Snipes.

The trilogy directed by Stephen Norrington, Guillermo del Toro, and David S. Goyer, explored the character showcasing different aspects including the Vampire Council along with other intricate elements of the character. And fans are hoping that through the rewrites, Kevin Feige might also be planning to bring a fulfilling experience for the fans.
The original Blade trilogy is available to stream on Prime Video.
Blade is set to release on November 7, 2025.
