HBO Head Hypes Upcoming DC Series The Penguin

“One of the advantages that I think we have as a company, putting aside HBO for a second, is all the Warner Bros. IP,” he said before adding that they have some major shows lined up, including The Penguin and House of the Dragon.

Talking about Colin Farrell’s upcoming DC series, he described it as the next major release following the second season of House of the Dragon, a prequel to the Emmy-winning TV series Game of Thrones.

So after House of the Dragon, the next big tentpole series that we have coming up will be the Penguin with Colin Farrell. That is coming out of Matt Reeves’ The Batman and it’s fantastic.

Bloys emphasized that a spin-off series of an existing IP can become successful, stating James Gunn’s Peacemaker as one of the prolific examples. Starring John Cena in the titular role, the series was derived from the 2021 superhero film The Suicide Squad.

“It’s a really good example of what you can do,” he said. While discussing the series, Casey Bloys also revealed the potential release timeline for the upcoming series, saying that the show is scheduled for release in September.

Colin Farrell Described The Penguin as Extremely Violent

In a conversation with MovieZine, Colin Farrell shared an insight into the upcoming TV series. Sharing his experience filming the series, the actor said that he had fun working on the show. However, he also described it as a dark and heavy production while stating that it is extremely violent.

It’s dark; that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think— it certainly was doing it — It’s incredibly violent. It’s one man’s rise to what he’s always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status.

However, despite its violent nature, Farrell shared that he enjoyed and had a wonderful experience working on the series. “It was a long and really wonderful experience,” he said before adding, “I had an amazing time doing it.”

The series follows the events of The Batman. Farrell elaborated on its narrative, explaining that Carmine Falcone’s demise in the movie led to a power struggle in Gotham City. In this vacuum of power, Oswald Cobblepot enters the fray, determined to rise to the top despite encountering formidable obstacles.

The Batman is available to stream on Max

The Penguin is expected to release in September 2024.
