Hollywood star Karl Urban, renowned for his role as Billy Butcher in The Boys, fondly recalled the playful rivalry of pranks he shared with his The Lord of the Rings co-star Viggo Mortensen. The duo shared the screen in the franchise as Éomer and Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s hit trilogy.

Mortensen, known for his mischievous pranks on set, once pulled a memorable stunt on Urban during the wee hours. Urban waited patiently for ten years before executing a prank of his own on Mortensen, which garnered widespread attention in the media.
Karl Urban Recalled Being Pranked By The Lord of The Rings Co-Star
Speaking at Fan Expo 2019, Karl Urban shared that he loves an elaborate and long-term prank, saying, “I’m definitely a fan of the long burn.” During the conversation, he also recalled the time when The Lord of the Rings star pulled a prank on him in the middle of the night.

He shared that while working on the film series, he was awakened by a late-night call from his agent, who frantically told him that she would buy him a new pair of red socks as she urged him to take the flight as planned.
It turned out to be my agent… “You got to get on the plane, you can’t not get on the plane. I will buy you another pair of red socks. You gotta make this flight because the studio is gonna freak out my world.”

Confused with the whole ordeal, The Boys star asked his agent what she was talking about. The realization instantly hit his agent as well, who simply said one name, “Viggo.” Urban shared that Viggo Mortensen had called his agent, posing as him, and told her that he would not fly without his lucky socks.
“So, he woke her up and he woke me up,” he recalled. However, the Doom star took his time to hit back Mortensen with a prank and eventually got his revenge a decade later during a promotional visit to Spain

Karl Urban shared that he patiently waited for a decade to pull a prank on his co-star and eventually got the opportunity during a promotional visit to Spain. He shared that they were both there to promote their respective films.

“I’m speaking to the press on Tuesday. He’s speaking to the exact same press on Wednesday,” he said. The actor shared that he had a mischievous treat for the Oscar-nominated actor when he came for his press conference.
The Star Trek actor shared that once the conference was over, he talked to as many members of the press as he could and told them that the Green Book star had bought a farm and 1,000 goats, and had developed a passion for crafting goat cheese.
I talked to the reporters and I said, “I got a day off tomorrow.” They are, “Really! what are you gonna do.” Well, I’m thinking of going to visit my friend Viggo… He’s just bought a farm. He’s got a thousand goats. He’s making goat cheese.

The fan of a slow burn, Urban finally got to hit back, as the next day, the press seemed more interested in his co-star’s goat cheese business, something he had no idea about, rather than his film. Urban also disclosed that his prank also escalated into a national news story.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is available to stream on Max.
