Mila Kunis Reflected on Landing the Role of Meg in Family Guy
While still portraying Jackie Burkhart on That ’70s Show, Mila Kunis discovered an opportunity to audition for another Fox sitcom, Family Guy. In a conversation with the Los Angeles Times, the actress revealed that she learned about the audition while working on the Fox sitcom.
The role of Meg Griffin became available after Lacey Chabert left due to her busy schedule with school and other commitments. And the Ted star grabbed the opportunity and auditioned for the part. She shared,
Somebody else was doing the voice of Meg. So said person left the show. I was on [“That ’70s Show.”] And [Fox says], “There’s an audition for this show that hasn’t aired yet.” Unlike these professionals, I didn’t read the script.
Kunis, who was also balancing school at the time, admitted that initially, she was criticized for speaking too quickly and not enunciating clearly. “I kept getting told that I speak too fast. And I don’t enunciate,” she recalled.
However, with guidance from the creator of the show, Seth MacFarlane, she adjusted her approach and successfully secured the role. Family Guy has since become the longest-running project of Kunis’s career, spanning nearly 25 years, with the upcoming season continuing its legacy.
