Before taking center stage as the first The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner shared a brief look into his personal life and what he sought in his future partner in a Men Tell All special with the Bachelor franchise host Jesse Palmer.
The appearance was accompanied by a preview, which offered insight into Turner’s family and memories of his late wife, Toni Turner. One of the clips from the preview featured him humorously discussing the contestants on the show.
While he admitted that he was unaware if the producers had already chosen the women he’d to meet on the show, Turner jokingly revealed his dream contestant while mentioning his celebrity crush on Helen Mirren.
Best case scenario is that I find out that Helen Mirren is on the market and she’s really happy to be on The Golden Bachelor.
Unfortunately for the reality TV star, Mirren is unlikely to make an appearance on the dating reality TV show, as she has been happily married to the film director Taylor Hackford for 27 years.
Gerry Turner Offered Joan Vassos Relationship Advice Ahead of The Golden Bachelorette
The former Golden Bachelor contestant, Joan Vassos, who had to step down from the show due to a family emergency, is now taking the spotlight in search of her new partner in The Golden Bachelorette.
Vassos, a school administrator, lost her husband to pancreatic cancer in 2021. While seeking love again, she shared a piece of advice she received from Gerry Turner. “Probably the best advice I got from Gerry,” she told Business Insider, before adding,
He said, ‘Don’t invest in somebody too early — There’s a lot of people there, and everybody deserves an equal chance. You don’t know what’s going to come of your original feelings for somebody.‘
While Turner gave helpful advice to The Golden Bachelorette, he has come under scrutiny for how he handled his relationship with Theresa Nist. Though the pair married soon after The Golden Bachelor concluded, their honeymoon phase was short-lived, and they announced their split just months later.
The reason for the split was revealed to be their inability to agree on their future, with Turner living in Indiana and Nist in New Jersey. However, Turner has received little support, especially after certain undisclosed facts about his life emerged, contradicting some of the claims he made on the show.
