However, one of the characters from the film has reminded many of the former US president, Donald Trump. Portrayed by Nick Offerman, the character of the President of the United States in the movie is now being compared to Trump for multiple reasons.
However, actress Kirsten Dunst has dismissed any comparison between the two. “It feels fictitious to me,” she said before adding, “I don’t want to compare because that’s the antithesis of the film.” The 41-year-old actress further told Variety,
” It’s just a fascist president. But I didn’t think about Nick’s character being any certain political figure. I just thought this is this president, in this world, who will not abide by the Constitution and democracy.”
Dunst clarified that Offerman’s character in the film does not intend to represent any specific political figure, but rather a leader who defies constitutional principles and democratic norms. Along with the actress, Offerman, who portrayed the role has also reacted to such comparisons.
Nick Offerman Addressed If the Former President Influenced His Civil War Character
Nick Offerman has also addressed comparisons between his character in Civil War and the former US president. Speaking to Deadline at the film’s premiers, the actor shared that he never associated his character with any political figure.
He also shared that any comparison between the film’s politics and real-life politics is irrelevant and defined the movie as a remarkable work of fiction. “When you see the movie, it’s so unattached to anything in modern politics, not only in our country but any country,” he said, explaining,
“It’s like doing a play where I’m playing a baseball player, and people say, ‘Did you ever think of your favorite team, the Cubs?’ And I say, ‘No, it’s a brilliant piece of fiction.”
The Founder actor suggested that the former president did not influence his character and emphasized, “From the get-go, it clearly wasn’t based on anything in reality.” The 53-year-old actor, however, was focused on bringing the filmmaker Alex Garland’s vision to life.
