Amidst the whirlwind of lights and cameras in Hollywood, it’s the quiet moments of mentorship and camaraderie that often leave the deepest impact on an individual. Ryan Reynolds also had a similar experience while working with his friend and co-star Hugh Jackman on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The actor recalled the profound moment as he recently sat down in a one-to-one interview with Jackman, and revealed how the X-Men star left a lasting impression on him that would reverberate throughout his career and life.
Ryan Reynolds Recalled Hugh Jackman’s Warm Welcome on the Set of Wolverine
In a recent interview for People, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman recalled their first meeting on the set of the 2009 film. And the Deadpool star revealed a heartwarming moment, highlighting his admiration for Jackman. Reynolds shared that he was very intimidated as it was the biggest movie of his career at the time.

He also recalled being super nervous and feeling a sense of being out of his depth upon arriving on the set in Sydney. “I remember showing up in Sydney. That was the biggest movie I’d ever worked on at that point,” he shared as he explained,
I was blown away. It was so intimidating walking onto that set I was nervous as hell. I didn’t know anyone or anything about it and I was walking through the trail, just jet lag disoriented, feeling really green and kind of out of my depth and there was no script to look at. It was just like what’s going to happen.
However, he felt at ease after Jackman greeted him with a hug, and reassured him that they would have a great time working on the movie. “I heard my name run in between these trailers…and it was you,” he told Jackman before adding, “And just the fact that you knew my name meant so much to me.”

Further in their conversation, Reynolds also recalled how the Logan star left a lasting impression on him, which has been significantly helpful for him to navigate his journey as a movie star in the subsequent years.
Ryan Reynolds Reflected on Hugh Jackman’s Impact on His Career
Getting a warm welcome from Hugh Jackman surely boosted Ryan Reynolds‘ spirits, and working with him also taught him a lot about leadership, graciousness, and the importance of making everyone around them feel seen. He said,
I just remember what a consummate host you were… I also learned so much about what it means to lead a set. — I watched you know the every member of the crew’s names. — How you interjected yourself into the creative process, was so beautiful to watch, and how everyone around you felt so seen.
“It left the biggest impression,” he said. Reynolds, however, couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at his friend, as he said, “Now my stardom would completely Eclipse yours… and you would just be you know one of the many grunting Stepping Stones I’ve used to hoist myself up.”
However, he sincerely highlighted how his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star left an indelible impression on him about the qualities and responsibilities of being a movie star and a leader.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is available to stream on Disney+.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26, 2024.
